Correct posture and support when seated has long been demonstrated to improve well-being and increase productivity. One of those best-selling plastic chairs online has existed for several years but still remains a firm favourite. But why is the Aeron Chair still so common?
It has an almost iconic status in the ergonomic chair marketplace with millions sold worldwide since its launching. Produced from modern materials, it is well proportioned, with an odd but distinctive design. Its use of a 'Pellicle', a thin, taut mechanism of net, instead of conventional foam upholstery, revolutionized office chair design. Many manufacturers now provide a net option in their chair ranges. With arms dangled by the back rest frame, the chair looks quite minimal from the side view but quite substantial in the rear or front.
One of the most peculiar facets of a Herman Miller Aeron Chair is its sizing. Aeron Chairs are available in three sizes, A, B and C. Size B covers the huge majority of individuals (approximately 90 percent) with 'A' covering the very smallest percentile and 'C' covering the biggest, heavier percentile. The positive part of this is that the dimensions of the chair are scaled depending on size as is the weight controller for the tilt and the chairs are suitable for a much wider diversity of individuals than a number of different chairs. One negative element, and there aren't a lot, is that the chair relies upon the 3 sizes for chair depth. There is not any seat depth adjustment facility on the chair.
Arm height is corrected on the Aeron Chair via two levers on the back of each arm or, on several chairs, these levers are substituted by wheels. Arms have a fantastic selection of adjustment and proceed very easily. Arm pads are pivoting as regular, even though it is possible to purchase fixed (non-pivoting) arm pads if required. When positioned inwards, they give very good support for computer keyboard work and if positioned straight or slightly outwards, they are suitable for mouse or basic work. Arm pads are big and nicely cushioned.
The Aeron Chair includes the Kinemat tilt which moves effortlessly and naturally through a generous 30 degree recline. That is a tension controller and Tilt Limiter - a mechanism to limit how much the chair reclines. The chair also has a Forward Tilt facility which enables the chair to tilt forward, beyond the upright position. This is particularly helpful for close computer function.
The Pellicle chair and back suspension on Aeron Chairs is produced from a highly engineered weave. It is quite firm but provides excellent, comfortable service. It has excellent pressure distribution properties also enables air to flow throughout, preventing heat build-up and allowing moisture to dissipate.
Posturefit is a unique back support mechanism located just on Aeron Chairs. It has a butterfly shaped pressure pad which affirms the lumbar region but also supports the lower back, underneath the belt line, which other chairs can't support. Controlled with a stress wheel, the Posturefit maintains a healthy posture and comfortable support when seated for short or long periods. There is also a conventional lumbar service option consisting of a sliding, reversible pub, similar to other chairs.
