We need a technical lead who wants to take UserLadder.com to the next level - someone who is equally passionate about blogs, technology, and startups. We already launched our Beta website at UserLadder.com in early December 2011and now are currently working on a second Beta release using outside developers and our own resources.
About UserLadder.com - UserLadder is a social content site that focuses on author reputation. The premise: We focus on improving the online experiences of two different groups: content creators and content viewers. To put it simply, there are two things UserLadder.com does. First, UserLadder.com filters content by author reputation. Second the site gives the power of assigning that reputation to the user community. Ultimately, both sides - viewers and the content providers - will benefit from this exchange.
How will users benefit?
The viewers: Viewers are a focal point of the site. People who visit the site can search or click on content categories and automatically see the top bloggers and content-adders for each topic along with their recently posted articles. By gaining the ability to filter content by the reputation of the author and category, blog readers significantly reduce the effort and time spent searching for quality content.
The authors: For authors, our network offers the benefit of building online reputation as well as marketing their content to viewers. Authors are able to gauge their content with their overall ranking as well as in-category and sub-category rankings. Authors also have access to data regarding the effect of each article on their overall score. This information allows authors to recognize which articles were most liked and disliked by the community, even if the content is spread across the web. For instance, if an author has a blog on their own domain, creates lenses on squidoo, and guest-posts on another blog, he can submit all his articles to our network and the feedback will compile onto his profile page. His rank would subsequently move up or down on the ladder depending on the effect of the feedback and the movement of the users above and below him.
Network participants: Network participants are the users that engage with the content. The participants are able to rate articles, have discussions, give feedback and much more. Engaging content is not only entertaining but is also a good way to network and create relationships. The site will also track how much participation activity a user engages in and will move users up or down the rankings ladder as well.
Requirements:
A programmer/web developer with extensive knowledge of PHP. The site also utilizes JavaScript, XML, Ajax, and DHTML, and the database architecture is MySQL. Expertise in additional languages, platforms, and technologies a plus.
Compensation:
Even though we have already put in a considerable amount of time into the company in addition to a financial investment, we do not undervalue the importance of having a technical lead. Because we are currently a bootstrapped company and pre-revenue, the arrangement involves no salary initially, but we offer equity comparable to that of a co-founder and commensurate with dedication and experience. If you cannot commit full-time, we are open to discussing a "nights and weekends" type arrangement in the short-term. If you can see yourself as passionate about the project in the long-term, we'd love to talk to you.
Location (Sacramento, CA):
We prefer someone located in or near the greater Sacramento area.
Email me: at Mike@userladder.com if you have any interest or questions about the project. Examples of previous work and your CV/LinkedIn profile are welcome. Having the required technical expertise is only part of the story; just as important is your alignment with the goals and vision of the company for the future.
